I'm really impressed when I read about people making 500 to 1000 dollars a month complaining that their income has dropped. Guys, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but the most I've ever made in two years on Medium was 30 bucks that month FanFare published my article "15 Directors Who Remade Their Own Movie — Not Always in the Best Way" (which was surprisingly successful). The rest of the time I earn an average of $5 a month, which can be extremely frustrating for someone who writes gigantic half-hour-read articles as I do. And look, I've tried to follow all the "magic formulas" to generate engagement: writing long and detailed articles, SEO, trying to publish in different pubs with more readers, spreading links all over outside Medium, etc etc. Luckily I love writing and I still see it as a hobby (I ran a blog for 12 years without earning a single penny). But in fact, it is often frustrating how much work and time is invested in something that has a minimum of readers and repercussions. Because of that, I went months without publishing anything new.
